Dax's Day

UPDATE: Dax's Day raised over $15,000 for St Jude!!

Have you heard of Dax Locke? He's a little boy from Washington, IL that lost his battle with cancer in December of 2009. You can read his story here, it's a journal written by his mother. As a mother of two boys, it's incredibly heart wrenching, so bring your kleenex along.

I have been asked to participate in a fundraiser for St. Jude in Dax's name. Here's the info on it:

Dax's Day this Saturday (Feb 20) at Five Points from 10-4! No admission fee, Dora the Explorer, face painting, and balloon making for the kids. Raffle & Silent auction (must be present to win) drawings at Noon; 3 silent auction over at 3. Over 30 vendors. We will be on Channel 31 on the 17th at 6:20 and channels 25, 19 on the 19th at 6:15. Hope to see you all there!

As a little fundraiser of my own for the show, I've decided to have some special cards available for purchase that day. They are 4.5x5 inch folded cards, each with a little boy's silhouette and "Cherish Every Moment", a phrase that families from St. Jude use.

You get 5 cards with envelopes for $10, with $5 of each purchase going directly to St. Jude.

Valentines

Today, we made Slone's valentines for school! He was really loving it. I took a box from Bo's birthday party and wrapped it in craft paper. The box had a envelope sized hole in the top of it where a handle had been, perfect for slipping in the valentines.

Slone also drew dinosaurs all over the back of it. I love that he loves to draw. He's pretty good at it too.

We cut out paper hearts and glued them to it. Bo especially loved the gluestick. He did think it was chapstick though, when I first pulled it out. (I just shivered a little, thinking of him putting it on his lips) Think glue tastes the same way it did as when we were kids, you know you've tasted it.

Slone decided he wanted to give out ringpops. Let me just say to the moms of the kids in his class: I did refrain from putting fundip in the baggies. Be thankful for what you get.

I designed the little card with his picture on it. Just thought it would be something different for a valentine. I also made him write out everyone's name and his name on all of them. Ok, I did help a little. He got tired:) Just wait, kiddo. This was a cinch for homework.

granny square afghan

Yup, that's what the yarn is for. It's a lighter weight yarn than what I'm used to, but I think it will be a cool afghan.

You start out with all these little circles.

Then I'm going to attach them all with a creamy/white yarn! Here's some that I've started.

I think there is something so cool about the white yarn with all the colors!

absolutely yummy

This yarn is so delicious. I love the colors. I did a good job of picking them out, if I do say so myself.

I got the yarn from purlsoho.com

I'll show you what I'm making on Monday:)

let them eat cake

Here's some pics of Bo's bday cake:) All he is interested in is trucks! So, what else could you make for a cake?

It's red, just like daddy's. It was yummy too.

Then I found this link on twitter, after the party of course! Seriously, you can learn anything you want to on youtube!

Dear Mr. Flu

Where did you come from?

We haven't seen you for quite awhile. Honestly, I could do without the drop by at 1am, not that I prefer the 6am call either.

If you wanted to visit me, why did you have to drag the kids into it too? That's just being rude.

Hope you get sick of us too.

Goodbye and God Bless.

a little Wednesday fun:)

Just a little pic for hump day! Hope it's a good one!

Birthday Fun!

Yup, Bo is three, officially today! Here are some snippets from Sunday, aka party day. Slone had an invite for Andrew's (a school buddy) bday party at Chuck E Cheese's. That place was a mad house. Seriously, if you can help it, DO NOT go there on the weekend! All you get is school-age kids pushing around the kids who really enjoy it (the ones that really don't understand what the tickets are all about). But anyway, they played in the jungle gym, and I thought that Bo was almost too short to make it up these levels....

...obviously, there was no problem there.

Here we are singing happy birthday to Bo. I lit the candle 3 times, once because someone else blew it out:), twice for Bo because Lyn is a bad videographer:)
